Reading this book permanently increases the player character's Lockpick skill by 3 points (4 with the Comprehension perk). There are eight copies of this book in Fallout: New California, for a total of 24 bonus points, or 32 with Comprehension.
Locations[]
The skill book can be found in the following locations.
- Vault 18 Lower Apartments: After the events of the Prequel quests, and leaving your room, take a left to enter the Hail family's apartment. The book is on the floor. A copy of Lying, Congressional Style is also nearby.
- One is sold by Six Finger Discount at Athens-Tec Mine. It is contained in his merchant inventory chest behind the counter of the Six Finger Discount shop and can be stolen/looted if the Very Hard lock is picked.
- Two copies in the Athens-Tec Mine Abyss. Note that both placements are bugged:
- One is in a drawer on the highest walkway above the abyss. It is inside the drawer, which is a static object that cannot be opened, so this book is only obtainable by clipping inside the drawer via console commands.
- One is at the bottom of the abyss, near the Protectron pod. However, it is erroneously placed below the ground.
- One is hidden among the bookshelves on the second floor of Athens house 4 at Black Horse Ranch. It is located on the left side of the middle bookcase's second-lowest shelf.
- One on a table near a bunk bed inside the sandcrete residence in Union City.
- On a dead scavenger inside Carmelo's Crepes, located near Big Bear Lake.
