Terra-Tec Mining Industries, simply known as Terra-Tec, was a pre-War mining supply company based out of Los Angeles, California.
Background[]
Terra-Tec was one of America's leading mining equipment manufacturers prior to the Great War. The corporation was contracted by Vault-Tec (and mainly Senator Andrew Oran) to provide construction equipment and specialized droids for Vault 18. It also provided the mining equipment, notably the experimental D-00M mining laser, used by Athens-Tec in the Athens-Tec mine.
Terra-Tec droids are modified RobCo protectrons and were used in the construction process of Vault 18, programmed to automatically mine out the space needed to construct prefab rooms to expand the vault. During the Great War, all of Terra-Tec's factories in Los Angeles were annihilated, preventing the construction of more droids. Despite this, the Terra-Tec droids in Vault 18 continued their initiative to carve out new expansions until breaking down due to a lack of maintenance. However, having long run out of necessary supplies for constructing prefab rooms, they have hewed many of the rooms out of the bare rock.[1]

- ↑ Star Player: "Oh. Well, can you tell me why some parts of Vault 18 were never finished?"
Joe Marshall: "What? Oh. Well, the way this place was built was pretty stupid. A bunch of experimental Terra-Tec droids were used to put the place together for some senator in LA. He never made it to the vault before the war. They dug a straight shaft right down through the mountain and outlined everything, then built the cement shell using prefab rooms like any vault. The war hit sooner than anyone expected. Wiped out all the Vault-Tec factories. And there was a huge revolt in the first week everybody came down here. Despite the mess, the droids kept building and digging. They didn’t have the prefab parts to finish, so a lot of our bigger spaces are just rock."
