Dr. Miyaki Kyoto was a resident of Vault 18 and member of the Wasteland Scouts, known for her genius in the fields of robotics and biology. She was killed by the Mind Virus in the 2250s. In Fallout: New California, she is the creator of and posthumously serves as the voice of B-6-RK.
Background[]
Miyaki was among the younger generations born in Vault 18, born sometime in the 2230s, one of the last to truly be born to the vault's aging residents. As a girl, she proved to be a genius engineer and scientist, and volunteered for the Wasteland Scouts in her teens, becoming the youngest member of the group. Among her achievements as a Wasteland Scout was altering pre-War cameras and Scout pip-boys to be used as rudimentary mapping software to chart out pre-War road systems, as well as developing B-6-RK, a robotic canine intended to serve as her "adventure buddy" and entertain the children of Vault 18 as a pet. She accompanied Kevin Rossman, Paul Evanson, and Yetti Hail on numerous missions into the wastes, suffering a degree of psychological trauma at the horrors of the wasteland, but proved to be among the team's most talented and invaluable members.
In the mid-2250s, Nova Star, seeking to discover and salvage Vault 18, lured out the Wasteland Scouts as they sought to secure a dangerous pre-War satellite arming device from the California Tribe, by dumping a barrel of beta-strain Forced Evolutionary Virus left behind by the Unity into the tribe's water supply, infecting the tribals with the Mind Virus. Kyoto and Kevin Rossman managed to jury-rig the systems of Vault 16 into a makeshift purifier, but Miyaki was approached and infected with the Mind Virus by a Nova Star agent via a glove. Nova Star then captured her fellow Scouts, attempting to extract the location of Vault 18 from them via torture. Kyoto was able to rescue her friends from Nova Star and successfully killed the mercenaries via orbital satellite strike by using the arming device, but B-6-RK was irreparably damaged. Now wanted for the murder of NCR citizens, the Scout retreated into Vault 18. Kyoto, realizing she was infected with the Mind Virus, sealed herself within the vault's Robotics Lab, working to repair B-6-RK before succumbing to the infection. She self-immolated her body to ensure no one else would be contaminated. The Scouts later made her old room in the Atrium a memorial to her.
