Doc Marius is a former Brotherhood of Steel self-proclaimed Technowizard.
Background[]
Hailing from the Angel's Boneyard, Marius ventured out to The Pass at age 20 on a field trip, claiming to be captured and put to work as a "slave" by the Brotherhood as a Squire. Shortly after the beginnings of the NCR-Brotherhood War, Marius managed to destroy the Brotherhood bunker he was kept in, stealing a set of Power Armor he trained himself to use, and escaped.[1][2] After his escape, he was involved in a short romantic relationship with Miyaki Kyoto, building B-6-RK with her, specifically in assembling the chassis.[3]
Marius also created a derivative of the Q-Modulator of his own design, designated "P87".[4] He is also the one responsible for the destruction of ALPHA, gaining access to his command code in the process.[5]
Player Interactions[]
The player can ask Marius for help in restoring the power supply and in supplying clean water during the quest "A More Perfect Union". Initial conversation has him complain about the NCR's corn yields in Union City due to an unknown corporation pushing the NCR to annex the region. Because of an experiment gone wrong involving corn, all the harvested crops ended up producing explosive, inedible corn, which could be used as improvised grenades.
Marius proposes to use his power station as a backup power source for the Union City, or turn it into a station to charge drained MFC for the benefit of the player. If the power is restored in that way, opportunity to speak with Kieva Nanjima on the Euripides Power Relay Station will be lost.
If you ask Marius to help restore the water purification facility, he will put his Advanced BoS PA on and will accompany the player before complete the quest by reporting to General Silverman.
If spoken to during "Destroy Fort Daggerpoint" Marius will award his power armor and the necessary training book to the Star Player, asking them to destroy FEV for science.
Notes[]
- Marius' other titles include "Wizard Marius" and "Grand Mancer Marius of Angel's Boneyard".[6]
- Marius mentions both an Elder Lyons, a "Citadel" and the Brotherhood making plans to assault his splinter group, both being a reference to Fallout: Tactics, in which the Midwestern Brotherhood used airships to travel, as well as Fallout 3, where the player encounters the Lyons Brotherhood within their base at the Citadel.[7]
- When talking about his learning of Power Armor Training, Marius likens his experience to that of "Iron Man", a Marvel Comics character.
- Marius' unique plasma rifle, which is from the base game, has a 100% critical hit chance.

- ↑ The Star Player: "You were in the Brotherhood, Marius?"
Marius: "Nope. I was a Brotherhood prisoner. They captured me when I was twenty on a field trip out here. Put me to work as a slave. Squire, they called it, the Anachronistic Bastards. I learned a lot tending their labs, and when the war broke out, they lost their footing in LA. San Francisco was nuked by the Enclave during the NCR-Enclave War. The Brotherhood took advantage and moved in to claim their stake. Then they attacked the Shi, the most advanced of the San Fran tribes. The Shi sided with an NCR plea and started a Civil War. The Brotherhood hit back hard, blew up whole sections of Los Angeles, wiped out entire platoons of conscript soldiers. It was a nightmare. I managed to destroy the Brotherhood bunker while they were trying to scuttle and evacuate. I stole the power armour, and rode into the sunset." - ↑ The Star Player: "Where did you get power armor training?"
Marius: "Part of my... "recruitment package." I helped the knights get into armour. I learned how they relaxed into it by watching them. After a few years of seeing it done, you get a sense of how to control your posture and reflexes. Then it’s just a matter of skill and talent. I used this suit to Iron Man my way out of that bunker before it exploded... With my captors inside. It was a good deal for me." - ↑ The Star Player: "Dr. Kyoto is the person who built B6RK. Did you know her?"
Marius: "Oh yes, I knew her. We had a short relationship, when we were still spry. I remember B6RK. I helped put the chassis together. I remember that Rossman used to get pissed off at the little dog, calling it "Berserk." In its beta state it tried to extrude excess hydraulic fluid on his feet. Somebody must have fixed her... when Kyoto died... well. I’d rather not talk about it." - ↑ The Star Player: "[Science 65+] Look, that Q-Modulator may vaporize every cell in my body, but I’m more use alive."
Marius: "[SUCCESS] Hum. This is actually a P87 type modulator, but I can see how you’d mistake it. This is my own design. So why are you here? A man/woman of Science doesn’t belong in Union City. The dust gets in the equipment, very troublesome. " - ↑ The Star Player: "Alpha, please take the plasma rifle from this nice gentlemen."
Marius: "Command code ab.cur.ob set 009. Abort and comply. Pah, haha. Funny. Your walking hunk of metal was scrapped out here years ago. I know. I’m the one that scrapped him." - ↑ The Star Player: "So, what kind of Doctor are you?"
Marius: "Doctor? Hahaha. That’s a word you’ll never hear again. This is the wasteland, there’s no thesis or tenure out here. No, you should be wary of anyone calling themselves doctor of anything, especially in an official capacity. Scum and villainy, they are. They’re all to some extent pretentious believers in sage wisdom and tribal myth. Their knowledge is a scam. Vault 8 may have a few real doctors, but all the rest are an assumed title. The locals call me a Technowizard. If you prefer, you can call me Wizard Marius. Or Grand Mancer Marius of Angel's Boneyard. Whatever you prefer." - ↑ The Star Player: "What happened to the Brotherhood?"
Marius: "They fled. The NCR won over after they destroyed half of LA. The Brotherhood’s arrogance led them to overextend their resources. After that, they headed out East. My bunker had a bunch of Elders in it, and I heard them moaning about some place in DC called “Citadel,” but they refused to talk about it. They were planning to send an airship to assault the splinter group that Elder Lyons led, but it fell short. The NCR won. The Brotherhood crumbled."
