The Daggerpoint cave, known pre-War as the Mountain Spring Caverns and also called the Cave of Stars, is a cave and former tribal settlement located to the north of Fort Daggerpoint in the Pass. It can only be accessed by an Enclave or Wild Card player during Destroy Fort Daggerpoint as an alternative route into the fort.

Background[]

Originally used as a recreational area before the Great War, the Mountain Spring Caverns fell into disuse before the Orian Tribe chose it as their new place of residence following their self-exile from Vault 18. They dotted it with tribal furnishings and set up a water tower to collect the cave water. Unfortunately, its close proximity to Fort Daggerpoint - as well as their excavation efforts which led them into the fort - caused them to be discovered by the Father, who had his mutants kidnap members of the tribe and forced Orrika Star to bear the children of Project Brazil in his maddened quest for revenge. They eventually released Orrika in 2242, and she had her children, along with several other tribal children, hidden by Annai Oran before the Father's mutants purged and took the rest of the tribe's adults.[1] The children were rescued and brought back to Vault 18 by Kevin Rossman and the Wasteland Scouts when they investigated the devastated settlement, and Rossman took it upon himself to ascertain the fate of the other missing tribes.[2]

Orrika's skeletal remains can be found by the water tower, her slave collar still attached. Since its abandonment, the cave has been claimed by an alpha male deathclaw who has destroyed the Father's robots patrolling the cave as well as most of the cave's other wildlife to form its nest. The external entrance to the cave has since been blocked off by debris, although Enclave Squad Leonidas operatives have taken an interest in the cavern and seek to access it.[3]

Layout[]

The cave is a large, dark underground area lit mostly by the trail of mushrooms that litter its floors and cover its towering stalagmites. It is inhabited by three wolves that are friendly to the player, a few wasteland creatures, and a deathclaw alpha male.

In its center is a cluster of tribal water towers. Orrika's skeleton lies beneath it, surrounded by mutfruit, water jugs and a few xander roots. Various Vault 18 clothes and a tribal outfit lay scattered around the back of the water towers.

Following the trail of mushrooms upward leads to an Enclave cache, with a small passage leading to Fort Daggerpoint's interior directly behind it. Be warned that once the player enters this area, they can no longer return to the cave.

Notable loot[]

  • An all-purpose science suit can be found in the Enclave cache at the end of the cave. Its DT of 13 makes it one of the most protective light armors in the game.
  • Three Sunset Sarsaparilla star bottlecaps - in the small box near Orrika's skeleton.
  • PipBoy casette - Exodite tribe - Holotape, in the small box near Orrika's skeleton.
  • Orrika's slave collar - Unique apparel, can be found near her skeleton.
  • Two Tribal bronze spears can be found near her skeleton.
  • Two deathclaw eggs can be found at the back of the cave.

Notes[]

According to lead developer Brandan Lee, the cave was originally intended to be accessible on all quest routes, but scripting issues blocked it from opening on most paths.[4]

Appearances[]

Daggerpoint cave appears only in Fallout: New California.

  4. "It's all finished and ready to go, the only problem is that it isnt unlocked when it COULD BE, but for some reason in most paths it remains shut. It needed to be locked until MQ05 begins, or WildCard starts. Never got unlocked except during Enclave Wild Card for some reason. I think the reason was the main door has a script that would need to trigger the next stage. In EWC path that is set by another script."
