Black Horse Ranch is a pre-War suburban community in Athens that has been converted into the main residential and support complex of the Raider Alliance.

Background[]

Prior to the Great War, Black Horse Ranch was one of the two main suburban communities in Athens, along with Mission Palms. It was an upper-class residential community catering to more affluent residents of the Cajon Pass, and part of the planned community that rose up around Athens-Tec mine. Like in neighboring Mision Hills, its residents were caught in a panicked military evacuation of the town as the Great War struck, resulting in them leaving many of their belongings and vehicles behind.

After the war, the town was re-occupied by the descendants of some of the surviving Athens residents and the mine employees, who fortified and restored the walled community, converting it into a small fortress. Home to their families, commanders and Elite Guard, the community was tended to by domestic slaves and sustained by cornfields and water from Black Bear Lake.

Layout[]

The heavily fortified city has two entrance points, including the main gate on the east side of the town and through a destroyed fence on the west side. The neighborhood centers around two main roads, Salem and Donoghue Streets. Their intersection marks the center of the community, distinguishable by both a covered wagon and military tank in the roadway. The city is heavily occupied by Raiders who occupy the roads and atop sniper barricades.

Houses[]

There are many residential homes, named Athens houses, both to the south and north of Salem Street. In between the houses, detritus and household contents litter the roads and yards. Raider fortifications are located at certain junctures within the town. There is a maize field and water tower directly next to the houses. On the south side of Salem Street, there are eight intact houses, six of which are accessible.

The slave barracks are located directly inside of the breached fence entry point on the west perimeter of the town. There are several cages holding the remains of the deceased, but the house itself is not accessible. The houses generally have the same layout consisting of two stories and a basement. The house closest to the main gate is distinguished by a "sale" sign on the front, but upon entry is completely blocked by rubble despite there being no evidence of such damage on the exterior. The remainder are explorable and contain minor loot, weapons, armor, and consumables.

Across Salem Street, on the north side of town, there are an additional five houses, four of which are accessible. The northernmost house sits across the street from the largest of the sniper overlooks. The main gate is heavily fortified with perches above the Salem Street approaching the gate as well as outside of the city limits. Raider merchants walk up and down the road with their pack brahmin, but they cannot be interacted with. Despite evidence of slavery in and around the town, no slaves are found in the location.
