The Bishops, or the Bishop family, are a powerful criminal and political syndicate within the New California Republic, based out of the city of New Reno. They are one of the major factions in Fallout: New California, an offshoot of the New California Republic.
History[]
For a detailed history of the Bishops in the Fallout series, please see the Bishops page on Nukapedia.
By 2260, the Bishops, now under the leadership of the only seventeen-year-old Mr. Bishop, have established their firm control over New Reno and indeed much of the New California Republic's political and economic interests, despite formally remaining outside of the NCR and its laws. With an army of corrupt civil servants and other officials under their thumb, they functionally control the NCR Senate, ensuring no NCR policy threatens their economic interests with costly conflicts or disruption of commerce, however ethically dubious.
The Bishops and other families of New Reno have a vested interest in the Pass and the Raider Alliance, as the Survivalists have been one of their longstanding trading partners since before the NCR was even formed. The Athens-Tec Mine is the only reliable source of gold and Uranium in the entire Core Region outside Redding, and the Survivalists' open use of slavery allows the Bishops an easy source of labor unhindered by the pesky human rights of NCR law. Furthermore, as an independent territory outside of NCR jurisdiction, The Pass allows the family to conduct their tax fraud, assassinations, and other dirty deeds with virtual impunity within practical walking distance of the Hub. This mutually beneficial state has been upset by the ascendancy of the unpredictable Juan Maxson-Elsdragon and the militant crusading of General Bill Silverman, and with war threatening to break out in the Pass, Mr. Bishop has dispatched Senator Paul DuVille to provide "senatorial oversight" of NCR military operations.
